Ricky Gervais, co-creator and executive producer of "The Office," made a guest appearance on Thursday's episode, using one of Michael Scott's [Steve Carell] most quoted lines.
During the show's cold open, Gervais ran in to Carell's character at an elevator and the two instantly hit it off when Scott innocently tried to imitate Gervais' English accent.
"I do characters as well," said Gervais, going on to perform a poor Chinese accent and admitting that it could be thought of as offensive, saying, "You can't do that today."
"No, and people don't understand that it has nothing to do with making fun of a different nationality," said Scott, who famously performed his own offensive imitation of Chris Rock in the episode "Diversity Day."
"Comedy is a place where the mind goes to tickle itself," Gervais explained. The comedian went on to add one of Michael Scott's favorite quips, saying, "That's what she said."
