ET has learned that Matthew Perry is voluntarily "going away" to focus on overcoming his battle with substance abuse.

"I'm making plans to go away for a month to focus on my sobriety and to continue my life in recovery," the actor told ET. In keeping with the sense of humor that made him famous on "Friends," the actor went on to say, "Please enjoy making fun of me on the world wide web."

Perry has checked himself into rehab twice before: once in 1997 and another time in 2001.

Perry's latest TV venture "Mr. Sunshine" debuted in February and airs on ABC.
