Kim Kardashian stopped by the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday, explaining why she went through with her short-lived marriage despite warnings from her family.
"I'm a person where if I'm in love, you can't tell me anything," says Kim, who was married to NBA player Kris Humphries for 72 days last year. "I did what I believed in doing, and sometimes you don't want to hear what your family has to say."
Kim also explained to Jay how she decided to leave her marriage, "I'm a girl that really believes in love... I'm in love with love. And I thought this was it for me, but when I realized it wasn't... I've always tried to be really respectful to everyone involved… I wanted to be fair to me, but I also wanted to be fair to someone else… I want that 'forever' and I believed in love, I still do, but I felt like, to be fair to everyone, I just knew I had to end it. And I'm okay with that decision."
The reality star wore a white jade bracelet from Elizabeth Taylor, who also had famous marital issues, having married eight times. Her first marriage lasted nine months.
Kim seems intent on seeing the silver lining, saying, "I wouldn't have been who I am today hadn't I gone through that."
Tonight Show airs weekdays on NBC.
