Some of the biggest names in comedy invaded New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom for the 2012 Comedy Awards, airing this Sunday on Comedy Central.

ET was first on the red carpet and backstage to find out what makes the funniest people in the world laugh – and to get the latest details on The Hangover Part III and the long-awaited return of Arrested Development!

Ed Helms, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph, Ty Burrell, Chevy Chase, Aisha Tyler, Joel McHale, Matthew Perry and Robin Williams (who received the Stand-Up Icon award) were just a few of the stars who shared their excitement on the red carpet.

Other stars at The Comedy Awards included Jon Stewart, Kristin Wiig, Tracy Morgan, Louis C.K., Chris Rock, Robert De Niro and Don Rickles, who received the Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence.
