Although Melissa Gilbert and her dancing partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy have been at the bottom of the pack for a few weeks on Dancing with the Stars, the two had high hopes to continue on to the semifinals and told ET that they were surprised when they were given word of their elimination.

RECAP: 'Dancing with the Stars' Eliminates Two Couples

"I didn't think it was us [who would be eliminated]. I actually was pretty convinced it wasn't going to be us," Chmerkovskiy said backstage after the show. "What can you say? You have four ridiculous couples that pulled out nines and tens since Week One and Two, so we can't complain. We just know what we put into this competition."

Gilbert agreed with her partner's assessment and only had positive words to share about her experience on the show. "We are going out on a very high note," the former Little House on the Prairie star said. "I was able to make it through the beginning, but to make it this far after...sustaining the injury that I sustained [is remarkable]...Now we can heal up and rest up. I've made a lifelong friend."

While Gilbert and Chmerkovskiy were caught off-guard by their unanticipated elimination, Katherine Jenkins and her partner Mark Ballas experienced an unexpected result that was fortuitous. "We were convinced were going home. We have been convinced all day," said Jenkins, who received the second-lowest score on Monday. "We...had a rough week with the wardrobe malfunction and that not going to plan and it being a double elimination."

Roshon Fegan and his dancing partner Chelsie Hightower, who were also claimed by Tuesday's double elimination, were upbeat after the show. "It happened the way it was supposed to happen," Fegan said. "We did a great job yesterday and had a great time but it's just inevitable. Destiny is destiny, and here we are."
