With the Dancing with the Stars pack down four on Monday for the semifinals, Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas suffered an untimely setback when Jenkins injured her back in the final seconds of their routine. While Jenkins received medical attention, her partner reflected on the incident and its potential implications.
Ballas, who referred to the injury as a "mixture of a slip, panic, and [a] back tweak," said that he and his opera singer partner didn't miss the step that caused the injury once in rehearsal. "In dress rehearsals today I was like, 'This is the one. This the breakthrough performance right now,'" he reflected with an expression of disappointment.
With the severity of Jenkins' injury having yet to be determined, Ballas stated uncertainty about his partner's ability to dance at Tuesday's results show. Having put months of hard work towards the Mirrorball Trophy, Ballas seemed slightly admitting defeat as he said, "Hopefully, we make it through. We've had a good time and if we go out tomorrow, it's been a good run."
This season has had its fair share of injuries, including an ankle injury for semifinalist William Levy, who revealed that his ankle is "perfectly well now." Levy theorized that at this point in the competition the scores don't matter, which is a relieving theory for fans of Katherine Jenkins.
"We did our best and we know right now that the scores don't mean anything," Levy said. "Now it's the fans, so hopefully the fans out there are voting for us."
