Jennifer Hudson to Guest Star on 'Smash'

The NBC hit Smash just added one more American Idol alum to its all-star cast! 

Announced today, Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy-winning actress-singer Jennifer Hudson has just signed on for a recurring role on the musical drama alongside fellow Idol hopeful and series star, Katharine McPhee.

"I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC," said Smash's executive producer, Steven Spielberg.

Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment mirrored Spielberg's delight in the casting choice, adding that he's "thrilled" to have snagged the uber-talented star.

"This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business and that's a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson," said Greenblatt. "Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it."

Hudson will play the role of Veronica Moore, "a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who impacts the lives of Karen (McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty)."

Smash's season two premiere date has yet to be revealed.
