According to The Associated Press, the morning news anchor will most likely begin her absence towards the end of August or early September. At a Television Critics Association conference on Thursday, Roberts reportedly named Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric and Kelly Ripa as some of the guests who are set to sub in her place.

"It's fascinating-slash-scary how to prepare yourself for something like this," she said, admitting that she does "go through moments of fatigue."

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) (formerly known as preleukemia) is a rare blood and bone marrow disorder resulting in abnormally low blood cell levels. The exact cause of MDS is still unknown.
