Chelsea Handler: I Have No Secrets

After a successful five years on her show Chelsea Lately, Chelsea Handler sat down with Steve Jones on the show's brand-new set for an update on the late-night host and comedian's life. As she revealed during the interview, her day-to-day life is what you see on her show.
With photos of Handler out for a night on the town with a group of celebrities for Gwyneth Paltrow's recent birthday celebration, she maintains that the media and paparazzi aren't overly interested in her because she exposes her life on Lately.
"It's just what you see on TV. Wherever I go, I'm the same," she said. "Me cutting loose is just me acting like myself...I don't really care. No one's taking photographs of me. There's no secrets. Everybody knows what I am because I talk about it on the show, so it's not like I get chased down by paparazzi. I let loose all the time."
Handler, who began acting and performing stand-up comedy in her twenties, appeared on various comedy projects including a prank reality show and a skit talk show before landing her own sketch comedy miniseries, The Chelsea Handler Show, in 2006.
"I'd have to have a really big ego to think that this is where I belong, so I just kind of fake it the whole way though," Handler said of her success, which also includes a series of best-selling books. "Even when I got the show the first time, I was like, 'This is weird that they're giving me a show,' so I just kind of acted like I belonged there and I've been acting like that ever since. It seems to be working out great."
Lately's main focus of satirizing pop culture with various panel members adding their own snippets to Handler's comical opinions will remain, but she teased a new feel to the show with the new set.
"The graphics are totally different; the look of the show is going to be completely different; and Pharrell (Williams, rapper/ producer) did the music for the show, so it's going to be really cool," she said. "It's really hip and chic."
Along with the new set, Handler is also writing another book to add to the collection. Following the mold of her previous book titles (e.g., My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands; Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea), Handler picked an alluring title for her new book, naming it 50 Shades of Chartreuse: This Time It's Personal.
"I've had a couple of interesting years and I haven't put out a book that I've written myself in a couple of years, and I figured so much has changed and so much has happened that I want to take everybody down that road again," the New Jersey native said. "I just thought, '[My fans] should know about what it's like."
Chelsea Lately returns tonight at 11 p.m. on E!, and her new film Fun Size opens this Friday.
