Karina Smirnoff 'Embarrassed' about 'DWTS' Fall

By

The usually immaculate dancing pair Apolo Ohno and Karina Smirnoff was caught off-guard on Dancing with the Stars when Smirnoff fell during their hip-hop routine. After the show, she was noticeably upset about the mishap.

"To be honest, at that point I was hoping that I could have some sort of powers that would open the dance floor and I could just jump in and just disappear," Smirnoff said of her demonstration of disappointment at the end of the dance. "I was so embarrassed. I was embarrassed about the package. I was embarrassed for letting him down."

Despite the mid-routine accident, the duo was able to finish their routine and received a decent score of 34.5 (out of 40), which slots them in seventh place on the leader board above Bristol Palin and Kirstie Alley. However, Ohno wasn't the slightest bit worried about the fall.

"She did a very good job," he said of his partner's performance. "Sometimes weird stuff happens and [for] people who watch at home, it's a good testament to...keep grinding no matter what happens...Life moves on; you got to make sure you can move with it."

The night's lowest-scored contestant, Kirstie Alley, wasn't focused on a potential elimination on Tuesday night, but was instead having a blast recounting her cartwheel with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy during their Charleston routine. Although their score wasn't flattering, the two were happy to have guest judge Paula Abdul on the show.

"I think she's great. She's very validating to artists in general, and I think that's a good thing, especially on a show like this," said Alley. "Everybody works really hard and the last thing you want to hear is 'You suck!' She has a way of really taking care of artists."

At the other end of the leader board was Gilles Marini, who missed a perfect score by a hair due to judge Len Goodman giving him a 9.5 instead of a 10. Despite the high score, which has him tied for first with Shawn Johnson, he and his partner were exhausted after the show.

"She sprained her finger; she broke my nose--not on purpose, with her heel; I dislocated my shoulder; both of my knees are bleeding; and my toe is wide-open," Marini said of his and his partner Peta Murgatroyd's injuries.
