Five years after the conclusion of her first sitcom, Reba McEntire is back at it again on the new sitcom Malibu Country. With the popular country music artist playing a country music sensation, she teased plenty of music coming from her on the show.
Unlike her real-life music career, which has included nine of her 26 studio albums peaking at No. 1 on the country charts, McEntire's character is attempting to revive her music career after moving from Nashville to Malibu. As she reveals, that presents the opportunity for her to make music on the show.

"We hope a lot," she responded when asked how often she will be making music, "because that's what the fans are really asking for. They're really excited about me playing a country singer...I do write a lot of the songs in the show...We've already got two songs in the pilot and the first episode, so we're ready to go with the music."
Viewers can not only expect performances from the legendary country music artist, but potentially from some of McEntire's famous music industry friends, who she has already talked to about making guest appearances on the show.

"I've already talked to Blake (Shelton) and Kelly (Clarkson) and they said...that they would appear, so we just got to get the script right when we need 'em in here," she said. "It's got to be honest. Everything about this show's got to be honest."
While the sitcom isn't named after her like her first one, McEntire takes her first name once again on the show, this time as "Reba Gallagher" instead of "Reba Hart." Beyond the evident ease of adapting to responding to her character's name, she revealed that her decision to have her character named after her was inspired by a television icon.
"It's easier for me to remember, especially when someone's hollering at me, I know how to respond," she revealed, "but I did some research and I did find out that Lucille Ball kept "Lucy" [through] the six different shows that she did, so I thought, 'That's a pretty good person to pattern after.'"
