Despite poor reception from the judges last night for their trio dance, viewer votes assured Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough a place in the semi-finals.

Kylie Minogue, Ne-Yo and the cast of the Broadway sensation Newsies helped ease the tension during the big double elimination night on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars.

Low scorers Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were the first to get the axe Tuesday, followed by Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd, who accepted their fate gracefully.

"In the end it's just an incredible experience," said Gilles, who was grateful for the opportunity to chase his mirror-ball dreams for a second time.

Next week, the remaining five (Apolo Anton Ohno, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft, Emmitt Smith and Shawn Johnson) will tackle one ballroom dance, one Michael Jackson-themed Latin dance (choreographed to Michael Jackson's Bad album) and one dance/theme chosen by another couple.

The Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars semi-finals begin next Monday night on ABC. Check your local listings.
