When Jessica Day arrived, fully formed, in our lives last September, many wondered, "Where did this girl come from?!?" This Tuesday's Thanksgiving episode reveals the origins of New Girl's universe when Mr. and Mrs. Day are introduced.

Played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner, the estranged Days use Thanksgiving as an opportunity to rekindle their love, and potentially rope in a third, as you can see in the sneak peek clip below.

And according to show creator, Liz Meriwether, this episode (titled Parents) is what season two is all about. "The first season, you're nail biting about getting canceled. In the second season, you get to explore the origins of these characters," Meriwether told ETonline. "The way your family molds you and your chosen family of friends try to fix what your actual families did to you is what the second season is about."

To that end, we'll meet Nick's father, who Meriwether reveals to be "a con artist and a total a**hole" later this season. Nick will also be getting a love interest later this season, played by The Newsroom's Olivia Munn. "She's this no bullsh*t character, and she's straight up gorgeous, which is always good on our show," Meriwether says. "We just shot this huge fight scene where she's hair pulling with these two strippers and [Olivia] got hit in the face. She's fine, but it was amazing to see her throw herself so completely into that. It's a really fun arc for Nick and the group."

Those who worry introducing a new love interest for Nick, just as he's getting closer to Jess, will derail that potential couple should know they have a champion in the most important position. "I love Nick and Jess. But we're still in season two. So there's no rush," Meriwether says. "This season will not only get Nick and Jess to an interesting place, but also Cece and Schmidt. All of their relationships deepen, and as someone who loves those storylines, I'm excited for the audience to see where that goes!"

New Girl airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
