L.A. Reid, the last original celebrity judge (apart from Simon Cowell) to remain on The X Factor USA's mentor panel, might be taking his leave from the singing competition, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Reid, a Grammy winning record executive, songwriter, and record producer, will depart the show after season two to focus his full attention on helming the Sony music label.

"I have the utmost respect for Simon Cowell," Reid told THR on Thursday. "He is the very best, and I have had the opportunity to learn so much from him. Working with him on 'X Factor' has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm honored to have sat on the panel with such incredible talent."

Added Reid, "Of course I will miss the show; in my opinion Simon attracts the best talent, but I'm looking forward to getting back to my core business and the responsibility of running Epic Records."

Reid still has one contestant, Tate Stevens, remaining on the show. Thursday's results episode on FOX will determine who will make next week's finals.

The famed producer was recruited by Simon Cowell for season one of The X Factor USA, outlasting Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who were axed and replaced by Britney Spears and Demi Lovato earlier this year.

Although Spears has expressed interest in returning to the show for season three, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
