Kevin Williamson has been terrifying audiences since 1996, but the brain behind Scream has never delivered a dose of fear quite like this!

On January 21, Fox will present the series premiere of The Following which is far and away the most terrifying show in television history.

Stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy bring to life a breathless game of cat and mouse as their characters (un-retired F.B.I agent Ryan Hardy and Joe Carroll, the recently escaped serial killer he helped catch) match wits in an attempt to permanently put the other down.

What makes Hardy's job infinitely harder is Carroll has spent his time behind bars cultivating a complex web of allies, who are willing to kill (and kill and kill and kill) for him. "If there was one thousandth of a percent of a serial killer in you, he'd find it and turn you into the serial killer you always knew you wanted to be," Purefoy says in a newly released behind the scenes trailer (below) that explains the concept and the allure of The Following.

Natalie Zea, Scream 4's Nico Tortorella, Law & Order's Annie Parisse, X-Men's Shawn Ashmore and scene-stealing newbie Valorie Curry round out this killer cast. Pun intended.

Having seen four episodes of the unpredictable, nerve-jangling and expertly crafted series, I can attest to the fact The Following will get under your skin in a deep and disturbing way. Get a sneak peek below!
