"It feels like a little movie every episode," Bacon told us last night during a premiere party for the show in New York. The 54-year-old actor plays a former FBI agent who comes out of retirement to help track down a serial killer portrayed by James Purefoy.

"There's a lot of stuff that's really complicated about the plot and what's going on," Bacon added. "But also what's happening to these characters emotionally, and who they are."

Bacon said he got excited about The Following -- which premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on FOX -- when he read the script, which he said contained many "surprising and shocking" plot twists. "There was a lot of stuff that happened that I didn't see coming."

Purefoy said viewers won't be disappointed when they tune into the series premiere and added that it's the kind of show people can easily get hooked on. "It's the most exciting hour of television you're going to be watching, without a shadow of a doubt."
