Animal Planet's 'Rhino Wars' Turns Dangerous

Published

Animal Planet is giving viewers an unprecedented look at what it takes to protect the nearly extinct rhinoceroses in the world renowned Greater Kruger area of South Africa in Battleground: Rhino Wars, and in this exclusive clip, four U.S. Special Forces veterans show you just how intense -- and dangerous -- things can get in their constant battle with rhino poachers.

"With Operation Full Moon being a 24 hour operation, it is zero 100," Craig "Saw" says in the dead of night. "Poachers don't keep office hours and neither should we."

Animal Planet's three-part miniseries documents this intense conflict that is centered on the worldwide commercial demand for rhino horns, an exotic commodity that's more valuable than gold on the black market. The miniseries reveals the conflict between poachers and one of South Africa's anti-poaching units -- which has recruited armed forces to stop the illegal trade of rhino horns -- and gives viewers an up-close look at the war that these elite U.S. warriors find themselves fighting where both rhinos and people are being slaughtered with increasing regularity.
