Dancing with the Stars is officially underway with a brand-new cast. Excited as the celebrity dancers were to finally show off their moves in the ballroom after weeks of rehearsals, they revealed backstage after the show that they had some serious jitters on their first Dancing show.
"I think we're all terrified, in a sense, because we're all stepping out [of] our comfort zones, but I had fun," said country singer Kellie Pickler.
The terror of ballroom dancing for the first time in front of a live audience and millions of viewers watching at home was a feat that seemed more daunting than it actually was for most of the cast.
"I was really nervous all day and basically all week, but then as soon as I got out there, I felt calm and I just had so much fun," said Fierce Five Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman.
Although all of the celebrity dancers have been cast in the spotlight in their respective fields, taking on a task that isn't their forte with millions of eyes watching can be intimidating. Victor Ortiz revealed that his breathing was thrown off rhythm during his dance with partner Lindsay Arnold.
"The first night [was challenging]. Getting on that dance floor...[I had] butterflies," the 26-year-old professional boxer said. "It [was] like, 'I'm going to faint! I can't breathe!' [Lindsay] had to remind me to breathe a few times."
Country singer Wynonna Judd also admitted a temporary lapse when she and defending Dancing pro champion Tony Dovolani performed their cha-cha.
"I don't remember a thing," she said with a laugh. "...I forgot and just had fun and just did the best I could do. I knew the steps and I just said, 'Let it go, baby. Let it go. You've been through so much. This is your chance to celebrate.'"
Comedian and actor Andy Dick, who is partnered with first-time professional Sharna Burgess recounted a similar experience while dancing the foxtrot on Monday night.
"There [were] moments in there where I was having fun. For the most part, I was petrified," Dick admitted. "I went in to a little bit of a blackout. It's just extremely difficult. All I have to do is look at [Sharna] and I'm back in it, [though]."
