Kirstie Alley Mentoring Wynonna Judd for 'DWTS'?

By

Wynonna Judd is well established in the country music world, but dancing has been an entirely domain for her. After posting mediocre scores in her first round of dances on Dancing with the Stars, Judd revealed that she is receiving advice from a former Dancing success story.

While Judd managed to avoid a position in the Bottom Two of Dancing's first elimination last week, she and partner Tony Dovolani posted a mere 36 points (out of 60), the same score achieved by the bottom two couples.

With her work cut out for her to get to the top of the leader board on her quest to win the Mirrorball Trophy, Judd has received counsel from former Dancing favorite Kirstie Alley, who finished as a runner-up on the show's twelfth season.

"[Kirstie] has become my mentor," Judd said in a rehearsal for her prom-themed samba. "She will text me and say, 'Throw your hair back and just go for it,' I [really] want to be like that. I'm so caught up in the technical part."

With an unrelenting work ethic, Alley was able to fine-tune her dancing as the show progressed and also utilized the show as an opportunity to improve her health.

Such hard work and loyal fan base recently helped Alley progress through six rounds on Dancing's most recent inaugural All-Stars season despite consistently low marks.

Judd has a similar edge with her vast country music contingent. Nevertheless, she still strives to be a great dancer, not just make it to the next round.

"I have to remind myself...[that] I'm not a pro, but I want to be a pro," the 48-year-old Kentucky native asserted. "I want to do it [to] the best of my ability."

VIDEO: Dorothy Hamill Emotional after 'DWTS' Withdrawal

Although Judd was delighted to continue on to the second round of Dancing, last week's elimination night was bittersweet, as former Olympic figure skater Dorothy Hamill withdrew from the competition due to injury.

"No one knew before the announcement. She'd been quiet that whole day," Judd said. "...When I walked out of the press line, the last thing I saw walking to my trailer was Dorothy's dress hanging there and I just burst into tears because she's a friend."

With the encouragement of Alley and the motivation of losing Hamill fresh in her mind, Judd and her partner will take on a prom-themed samba tonight in hopes of climbing up the leader board.
