Derek Theler Dominates The 'Baby Daddy' Tweet Off

By

Last night, a week's worth of campaigning coalesced in the first-ever Baby Daddy Tweet Off, as the cast competed to see who could gain the most new Twitter followers during the show's season premiere.

When showtime arrived, I hunkered down alongside Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Derek Theler, Melissa Peterman, Chelsea Kane and Tahj Mowry (who still participated despite being home sick) as they attempted to TwitPic, Vine and Instagram their way to the winner's circle.

When all was said and done, Derek emerged victorious with over a thousand new followers in 30 minutes and permanent bragging rights with his co-stars (who begrudgingly slipped into #ILoveDerek t-shirts after his victory). I chatted with the reigning social media king after his victory and found out what fans can expect to see as the season plays out!

ETonline: Congratulations on winning, how does it feel?

Derek Theler: I haven't felt this good in a really long time. I took it very seriously, I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform on this Baby Daddy Tweet Off. I'm so happy my fans came through!

ETonline: You seemed to be the only one who actually devised a strategy to win.

Theler: I don't know if I’m proud of that [laughs] but, yeah, I told everyone to unfollow me and then re-follow me mid-way through the episode, I really appreciate all the help. Honestly, I was the low-man on the totem pole in terms of followers. Chelsea had like 40 times as many followers; I was creepin' with like 24 thousand. I'm a pretty competitive dude, so I'm definitely going to rub it in their noses a little bit.

ETonline: I like that ABC Family made these fancy victory shirts.

Theler: I can almost guarantee I'm going to be wearing this shirt for like the next 5 days around the house. Jean-Luc is going to be so sick of it.

ETonline: Well, you'll have to take it off sooner rather than later since you promised everyone shirtless photos if you won.

Theler: Yes, I promised I would take it off. I did. I promised I would do a post-workout selfie, which I will. I might regret that later, but there will be a shirtless pic coming quickly because I did promise that. Ed note: He did.

ETonline: Were there any side bets between the cast?

Theler: No side bets, but the cast is planning to do a charity car wash that I can now supervise while they do the hard work and we raise some money for charity.

ETonline: Looking ahead, what can fans expect from this season of Baby Daddy?

Theler: There's a lot happening with the love triangle. Although it's kind of crazy this season because it keeps evolving and the characters keep missing each other, so there are lots of side relationships that kind of twist things around. But towards the end of the season, there's a lot of advances in the love triangle.

ETonline: And we saw in the trailer that you get to wear a superhero costume later this season?

Theler: Yes! I mean, that's why I moved to Los Angeles, so getting to work on a show that I love and do all this cool superhero stuff is so cool. I mean, I get to kick in a door while wearing a cape. I really couldn't be having a better time.

Baby Daddy
