'SYTYCD' Week 4: Emmy Nominations & Carly Rae!

Last week So You Think You Can Dance took a week off to make way for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The show returned this week on a high note with guest judge Carly Rae Jepsen as well as seven Emmy Award nominations, including Best Reality Competition Program and Cat Deeley for Best Host for a Reality or Reality- Competition Program.

Of the exciting news, Mary Murphy was thrilled to be invited to TV's biggest night. "It definitely means a lot to us and as dancers we’re just proud of the fact that we’re being recognized in this way," she told me backstage.

Last night the bottom six dancers were revealed when Mariah, Makenzie and Alan were named; while Jenna, Curtis and Blu-Print made a repeat trip to the bottom two weeks in a row. After they performed their solos, the top 16 returned to perform everything from jazz and contemporary, to the jive and the dreaded quick-step in what was a decidedly strong night for the girls of the competition.

After being the only dancer saved from having to perform a solo, Jenna along with her partner Tucker turned out the most memorable routine of the night. Their high flying act (choreographed by Emmy nominee Travis Wall) moved an emotional Mary to tears.

"We were very emotional tonight and I think we were all feeling [it]," Jenna explains.

Eventually it was partners Mariah and Blu-Print who were eliminated from the competition. Watch the backstage interviews above for their tearful send off and why the chemistry between the remaining couples is important for the contestants as they move forward in the competition.
