Though Seth Meyers is taking his leave from Saturday Night Live to launch Late Night With Seth Meyers, the show's former head writer tells ET that he plans to stick around Studio 8H through the beginning of season 39 in order to ease a new, permanent host into the Weekend Update chair.
"I'll be staying on through the first half of the fall," he confirmed, joking that the remaining players will use the extra time to launch "a sort of Hunger Games battle for who will take over."
We caught up with Seth at San Diego's annual Comic-Con celebration where the funnyman and his crew (including SNL's Kenan Thompson and Bobby Moynihan) presented their new show, The Awesomes, a 10-episode animated superhero series, debuting August 1 on Hulu.
"It's been great," said Seth of the venture, a project in the works since 2006. "Obviously, everyone here is a friend of ours who we sort of asked as favors as opposed to 'Are you ready for your career to change?'. And everybody's just been wonderful about it."
