Season five of the critically-acclaimed TV drama Parenthood is being celebrated by fans partially just for existing.

As a longtime placeholder on the network bubble, many of the cast was as relieved as the viewers when the show was picked up for a fifth season.

"Every year, we wonder if it's going to come back or not," said cast member Peter Krause.

The sentiment was not shared by co-star Erika Christensen, who joked, "maybe it's just a character flaw of mine. I didn't really have any doubts."

Of course, the upcoming season finds Monica Potter's character Kristina dealing with breast cancer, in a storyline that has touched many fans who have been affected by this terrible disease in real life. The importance of handling the issue carefully has not been lost on the cast.

"It's one of those things that has touched everybody," said Erika, adding that the show has "never shied away from those things.”
