First Look: AMC's New Series 'Turn'

With Breaking Bad over and Mad Men on the way out, AMC is hitching its wagon to the past in hopes of ensuring a bright future with two new shows: Halt & Catch Fire, set in the early 1980s, and Turn, set in 1778. Last night, during The Walking Dead mid-season finale, we got our first look at Turn, starring Jamie Bell, and all signs point to AMC's continued dominance in scripted drama.

Based on the book Washington's Spies written by Alexander Rose, Turn is set in the summer of 1778 and tells the story of New York farmer Abe Woodhull, who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who turn the tide in America's fight for independence.

Abe Woodhull, who went by the name Samuel Culper Sr. so that the British couldn't punish his family, developed a complex code for communication that the enemy couldn't decipher during The American Revolution. Jamie Bell is joined in the Craig Silverstein-run series by Kevin McNally, Burn Gorman, Angus MacFadyen, JJ Feild, Seth Numrich, Daniel Henshall and Heather Lind. Watch the first sneak peek!

Turn
is scheduled to premiere in 2014.
