Today show viewers will be treated to a blast from the past next week when former co-anchors Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley return to the anchor desk they shared during the 1980s.

Pauley, 63, and Gumbel, 65, will team up with Matt Lauer as co-anchors during the show this Monday, Dec. 30, NBC revealed Thursday.

Gumbel left the iconic morning show in 1997 after 15 years in the anchor chair, while Pauley departed in 1989 after 13 years, the last seven of them with Gumbel.

Although it will be the first co-anchoring reunion for the duo, it won't be the first time they've returned to the show. Gumbel joined fellow anchors during the show's 60th anniversary in January 2012, and Pauley continues to appear in her monthly "Life Reimagined Today" segment, in which she spotlights Americans over 50 embarking on new careers.
