Though much has been made about Mindy Kaling's casting choices when it comes to her Fox hit The Mindy Project -- specifically the criticism that there's a lack of diversity when it comes to the guys she's dated on the show --  it appears the 34-year-old actress/writer finally reached her limits at a Marie Claire-sponsored panel discussion of The Mindy Project at the South by Southwest festival Monday.

When asked if it was a conscious decision that Mindy be the only female doctor and the only doctor of color on the show, Kaling hit back with an expletive-laced response.

"I look at shows on TV, and this is going to just seem defensive, but I'm just gonna say it: I'm a f***ing Indian woman who has her own f***ing network television show, OK?" she said via FlavorWire.

She also asked why she appears to be the only show runner getting constantly questioned about diversity.

"I have four series regulars that are women on my show, and no one asks any of the shows I adore -- and I won’t name them because they're my friends -- why no leads on their shows are women or of color, and I'm the one that gets lobbied about these things," she said. " … People have a higher expectation for me. They say, 'Why aren't you doing enough?' And the answer is, I always want to do more because people should always be doing as much as they can, but my full-time job is not casting The Mindy Project. My life is constantly disappointing people, politically or something."

She stressed that she simply wants to use "funny people" on her show.

"I'm someone who's writing a show and I want to use funny people. And it feels like it diminishes the incredibly funny women who do come on my show… I don’t know, it's a little frustrating."

The surprisingly candid answer comes after video went viral of an E! reporter who asked Kaling what "color" guys she likes at the Oscars.
