Josh Charles on His Shocking 'Good Wife' Exit

The Good Wife cast talks the impact of Sunday night's game-changing episode.

It's the television event that shocked all The Good Wife fans to the core.

On Sunday night's episode, the series killed off one of its beloved main characters -- Josh Charles' Will Gardner -- essentially the male lead in the show. Garder was shot in the courtroom by his client Jeffery Grant (Hunter Parrish) and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Charles himself took to Twitter Sunday amidst fan furor over the shocking turn of events.

"A lot of people have been asking me what the reason is for leaving the show," he says in a new CBS interview about the aftermath of the game-changing episode. "I felt however much I enjoyed the experience, I was ready for the next chapter in my life both creatively and personally."

"I cried. I've known Josh for a long, long time," Julianna Magulies (Alicia Florrick) says. "When I heard he was leaving, I called the producers and said, 'How about we try to keep him for about half of next year and write his character out?' Out of that came this incredible writing."

"I'm still sad, very sad," Christine Baranski (Diane Lockhart) adds. "I feel like it's a loss of a family member."
