Ommegang Brewery Fire & Blood Red Ale

By DAVID WEINER

April 03, 2014

Ommegang Brewery has cooked up perhaps the best batch yet of Game of Thrones ales in their third round following the celebrated Iron Throne Blonde Ale and Take the Black Stout. Inspired by House Targaryen, the Fire & Blood Red Ale features a collectible series of labels, one for each of the three dragons on the show: Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion. A hearty drink for your goblet, this fiery ale -- it's spiced with de-seeded Ancho chilies -- has a fruity, sweetish malt taste and boasts a deep, dark red hue with a persistent, creamy, off-white head and aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, malt and slight spice, followed by a slightly floral and spicy hop character.

Coinage Required (Copper Halfpennies, Silver Stags & Gold Dragons optional): $8.99 each or market price at various locations
