Meyers, 40, is no stranger to heading up awards ceremonies. He hosted ESPN's ESPY Awards two years in a row in 2010 and 2011.

NBC made the announcement early Thursday evening. "Seth's expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera, makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys," said NBC's president of late night and alternative programming Paul Telegdy.

The Emmys will air on August 25, 2014 at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT on NBC. The awards will air earlier than usual (last year they aired on September 22), and will be televised on a Monday to avoid conflict with the NFL games.

Do you think Seth is the right guy to host the Emmys?
