Perhaps best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, English actor Tom Felton is stepping into his first American TV role in Murder in the First.  In the 10-episode series, the 26-year-old plays brilliant and wealthy Silicon Valley CEO Erich Blunt, who's being investigated by SFPD homicide inspectors Terry English (Taye Diggs) and Hildy Mulligan (Kathleen Robertson) after the suspicious death of his flight attendant/girlfriend.

Filmed in both San Francisco and Los Angeles and created by producer Steven Bochco (NYPD Blue, L.A. Law) and writer Eric Lodal, the show follows a single case throughout the entire season and delves into the emotional sides of the characters while exploring the fast-paced tech world in the foggy city.

"It's a different world to me and a very exciting one," Tom told ET on the show's L.A. set.  "The backdrop of San Francisco was enough for me to get really excited about it and I’ve learned a huge amount.  What it takes to get nine, ten or more pages done per day in the best possible quality, it's been a real learning experience and a lot of fun at the same time."

Underneath Erich Blunt's boyish charm lies a dark and vulnerable side that Tom's familiar with, given his previous roles, yet at the same time he's a true prodigy with a vision for the future.

"Erich certainly has his difficulties interacting with the rest of the normal public, but he's a real visionary so his mind doesn't think on normal planes. He comes across as aggressive and somewhat intolerant at times, but that's what’s so nice about all the characters being very different and also strong professionals in their fields."

Each episode will keep viewers guessing about the identity of the killer, as it did for most of the show’s cast, since creators Steven Bochco and Eric Lodal kept most of the story a secret until the last few days of filming.

The new mystery series also stars James Cromwell (Babe, L.A. Confidential), Ian Anthony Dale (Hawaii Five-0), Richard Schiff and Bess Rous.

Murder in the First premieres tonight at 10 p.m. on TNT.
