Jada Pinkett Smith is starring in one of the most anticipated TV series of the fall -- Gotham -- and she told us about her bad girl character in FOX's Batman prequel.

Gotham is an origin story of the DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, focusing primarily on Commissioner Gordon's rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner. The series also imagines what spawned the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker.

While many similarities carried over from the comic books, Jada's role as mob boss, Fish Mooney, was created just for the series.

"It's so much fun," Jada told ET's Brooke Anderson. "You get to explore the shadowy parts of your personality."

"I think that it's a show that comic book fans could love, but also people who have no idea what Batman is about," Jada added.

Gotham premieres September 22 on FOX. Watch the video to meet the rest of the cast.
