There's about to be a crossover between Scandal and The Mindy Project ...sorta.
Mindy Kaling and the cast are welcoming Grey's Anatomy and Scandal producer Shonda Rhimes to the FOX comedy, TVLine reports. Rhimes will make her acting debut in a fall episode where she will play herself, though her storyline is still under wraps. We wonder if she'll write it herself!

The site notes that Rhimes is a super-fan of the show and Kaling's comedy.
Also joining season 3 will be Cheers actress Rhea Perlman who will play Annette Castellano, Danny's (Chris Messina) mother. The Mindy Project returns to FOX on Sept. 16.
Rhimes and Perlman wouldn't be the first famous faces to show up on this show. Seth Rogen, James Franco, Kendra Wilkinson, Tim Daly and Timothy Olyphant (to name a few) have all guest starred on the series.
