Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson attempts to apologize for those controversial quotes made toGQ magazine this past year ...but not really.

"I don't worry too much about people hating or insulting me," he told Us Weekly. "I'm a sinful man, and I've made a lot of mistakes. People have reason to hate me."

In Dec. 2013, Roberts made headlines when he compared homosexuality to bestiality during a GQ interview, saying, "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."

"All I did was quote a passage of scripture from antiquity," he told the magazine, defending his comments. "They're mad at me, but I'm really just quoting what God said, so He's the one they have a problem with."

The 68-year-old reality star also made remarks about black people in the pre-Civil-Rights-era South, saying back when he was working on a Louisiana cotton farm in the 1960s, they were "singing and happy." What does he think of that quote now? "I was just giving my experience. The point I was making was that even when our black brothers didn't have their civil rights, those people had that one thing the government couldn't take from them: their faith. They would sing spiritual songs as they were going across those cotton fields."

Robertson added, "Old Jesse [Jackson] got mad at me and said something about how I was a Jim Crow and a racist. We don't look at people like black, white and brown. We're all members of the human race."

He also took this recent soap box to give his two cents about the gun laws in the U.S. "It's never been a weapons problem. It's a human heart condition of anger and hatred. If people loved God and loved each other, the last thing you would ever contemplate is to murder your neighbor."

Do you think these recent quotes from Robertson help or hurt his image?

The Duck Dynasty star wasn't part of any summer scandals, thankfully, but plenty of other celebrities found themselves making salacious headlines. Check the biggest scandals of the season, below:
