It's (another) zombie apocalypse!

Spin-off rumors for AMC's mega-hit The Walking Dead have been swirling throughout the TV-sphere for months, and now it looks like the new series could actually happen. AMC announced Friday morning that Robert Kirkman, the co-creator of the cult comic book series, and Dave Erikson will team up to create a "companion series" to The Walking Dead.

If you've been wondering what else has been happening in the outside of Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) walker-hunter gang in that post-apocalyptic USA wasteland, you're in luck! The new show is said to be set in a different location than then flagship series and will feature and entirely new set of characters.

SPOILERS: Exclusive Scoop on The Walking Dead's New Season!

"There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows," Kirkman said in a statement. "Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them."

As of now AMC has only ordered the pilot of the yet-to-be-named companion series, and production is expected to begin in late 2014. In addition to Kirkman and Robert's involvement, The Walking Dead's executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert have also signed on to the new series.
