On the ABC show's second season 4 episode, First Lady Mellie Grant, played by Bellamy Young, continues her depression spiral with a spontaneous fried chicken chow-down.

But there's one big challenge for the talented actress: Young, 44, is actually a devout and outspoken vegan!

Luckily her new co-star, Portia de Rossi -- who just joined the show as “Lizzie Bear,” head of the Republican National Committee -- had her back. "I LOVE fried chicken Mellie!” de Rossi, 41, tweeted. “From one vegan to another! @BellamyYoung."

Rossi, who along with wife Ellen DeGeneres has been a vocal advocate for going vegan, quickly added: "Hey @BellamyYoung, did I out you as a vegan??"

Young then revealed the secret to her enthusiastic on-screen eating: "They made me the MOST DELICIOUS VEGAN chicken EVER- HEAVEN!!"

And the show, which is always active on Twitter during new episodes, responded with their own joke:

Not quite as scandalous as what their characters are facing on the show but amusing nonetheless!

"I feel happier, like I'm contributing to making the world a less violent place,” de Rossi said, while describing her “a-ha” moment about deciding to no longer eat animal products to Oprah.

Young, who is originally from North Carolina, told Southern Living magazine in Aug. 2013, "I may be vegan, but my mama’s buttermilk biscuits are the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. Asheville is a great city for vegan foodies."

There was another off-screen Scandal reveal made recently that had a few jaws dropping. See who said they don't like kissing their gorgeous co-stars:
