Double, double, toil and trouble — fire burn and caldron bubble!
Prepare for a spell-binding trip down nostalgia lane when the Melissa & Joey Halloween special, airing Oct. 22 at 8 p.m., features a Sabrina the Teenage Witch-inspired tale.
Beth Broderick, who is best known for playing Sabrina's brilliant Aunt Zelda, is joining her former on-screen niece, Melissa Joan Hart, in Wednesday night's episode — and ETonline was on set to capture all of the Other Realm fun!
In the Halloween-themed episode, entitled "Witch Came First," Broderick's character Dr. Ellen Radler reveals to Mel (Hart) that she was born with magical powers — but she doesn't remember her former life because she was relocated to Toledo, Ohio, in a secret witch-ness protection program. (Admit it, who else is cackling with excitement right now?)
So why is Aunt Zelda spilling the cauldron and finally telling the truth? Hart dished to ETonline, "[Beth] comes here to tell me that I am being chased by the Dark Lord. They've put me here to protect me and now I've got to face the Dark Lord." Ladies and gentlemen, the witch is back!
Armed with a "spell-phone" that houses all of a witch's modern day enchantments, curses, and magical cures, Mel must now protect Joe (Joey Lawrence) and her family from the evil that lurks on All Hallow's Eve. Hart, who also directed the episode, said that she is thrilled that fans will be able to experience a little bit of '90s "déjà vu" with this Halloween special.
"Having Beth here is just so wonderful and we get to do witchy stuff and magic in this one episode," Hart said before Broderick added with a laugh, "Yeah it's really really spooky!" (The Melissa & Joey special even features a black cat named Warlock — the last living cat who worked on who worked with Hart and Broderick on the Sabrina set!)
Sabrina the Teenage Witch aired on ABC from 1996 to 2003 and was a fan-favorite series in the network's beloved T.G.I.F. line-up. Since its end, many fans have wondered what ever became of Sabrina and her zany, but well-meaning aunts — and now we finally have the answer!
"Oh [they're] living like Aunt Irma," Hart revealed to the delight of fans everywhere. "The one with the Hall of Gratuitous Praise and the bon-bons, I think like that. They'd be like, you know what? Enough with the mortal world — we're going to the Other Realm and we're living like queens."
Take a look at our exclusive interview above to see all the Sabrina the Teenage Witch goodness for yourself. Then get ready because fans of the late-'90s series are in for a witchy reunion complete with black cats, dark threats, and of course, plenty of magic.
