'The Vampire Diaries' Sneak Peek: Sheriff Forbes Plays Christmas Cupid With Steroline!

ETONLINE

ETonline is gifting you with an exclusive (and beyond adorable!) sneak peek from this Thursday's mid-season finale.

Happy holidays, TVD fans!

There's only one new episode of The Vampire Diaries left in 2014, and despite the perpetual amount of drama and deadly threats, our favorite vamps are getting ready for the most wonderful time of the year.

ETonline is gifting you with an exclusive (and beyond adorable!) sneak peek from this Thursday's mid-season finale — and it looks like Caroline (Candice Accola) could be getting a Stefan (Paul Wesley) underneath her Christmas tree.

Since Caroline still can't go home for the holidays, (Ugh, damn Travelers' curse) her mom is bringing the holidays to her. And in an effort to play Christmas cupid, Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) brought along an extra holiday elf to help deck the halls of her Caroline's dorm room.

While most girls would be ecstatic to see a swoon-worthy former crush armed with twinkly lights, Caroline is less than pleased with her mother's holiday surprise.

“Normally, she likes to cover it up and pretend everything is fine, so we’ll see a little bit of that,” Accola explained to ETonline on The Vampire Diaries set in Vancouver.

"Caroline is very much still embarrassed at having realized her feelings and she’s found the only way to deal with it is to say what she said [a few weeks ago]: 'I hate you... because if I don’t hate you, I’d hate myself,'" she said. "That’s gonna be a theme carried out over the next couple episodes."

NEWS: Julie Plec Talks 'Honoring' Fans with the Delena Rain Kiss!

So what's next for Caroline in Thursday's winter finale? Executive producer Julie Plec revealed that a brand new challenge is coming her way. "She's going to get hit with a couple curve balls before our mid-season finale is over," Plec said. "That's going to tell us a lot about where she and her character are going to go once we get back from the holidays.

The showrunner continued, " I think the best thing I can say about Caroline is in the midst of everything she is going through — her crumbling relationship with Stefan and trying to get past that feeling of falling for someone who doesn’t necessarily seem to share the feelings for you — she's really trying to find her strength on the other side."

The Vampire Diaries' mid-season finale airs Thursday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
