On Wednesday’s installment, Craig welcomed incoming host – fellow U.K. native James Corden
– to the franchise by peppering him with questions (“You sure you want to do it?!”), offering words of wisdom (“People are so kind… especially on the Internet”) and tasked him with his first big test: throwing to a commercial break.
Let’s just say, James was an adorable ball of nerves.
“Even this is making my chest very tight!” the 36-year-old Into the Woods and Begin Again star admitted in a fit of nervous laughter and with tears in his eyes.
“You’ll be fine,” Craig reassured, before stepping out of frame and letting James have his unofficial Late Late Show hosting debut.
“I can’t breathe,” James, a Tony winner, exclaimed. After some more reassuring on Craig’s part – “Breathe in, out, in, out” – James takes it away, passing the test with flying colors!
The Late Late Show With James Corden makes its debut on March 23, while Craig’s final episode airs Friday with former Tonight Show host Jay Leno as his last guest.
