After heavy defense from both sides in the first half, the teams came out of halftime tied up at 14-14, just the third time in history that the Super Bowl has ever been tied at the midway point. Seattle took an early lead in the third quarter, but New England scored two quick touchdowns in the fourth to take back their lead.
Seattle wide receiver Jermaine Kearse made an unbelievable downfield catch with a few minutes to go, and the Seahawks looked poised to make another dramatic comeback. But a disastrous intercepted throw by quarterback Russell Wilson put the ball back in New England’s hands with just 20 seconds to go.
The victory is the fourth championship in just 14 years for the Patriots, head coach Bill Belichick, and quarterback Tom Brady.
