This may be the coolest news ever!

Stephen Colbert, former host of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, isn’t sitting idly by as he prepares to take over for David Letterman on CBS’ Late Show this fall. Instead, the 50-year-old late-night veteran is heading to The Mindy Project – as a priest!

Creator and star Mindy Kaling took to Twitter to announce the news on Friday, accompanied by a photo of her and a bearded Colbert on location in a church.

Colbert, who signed off The Colbert Report on Dec. 18, will play Father Michael O’Donnell on the Fox comedy.

The Mindy Project has been racking up the guest stars this season – from Lee Pace and Julia Stiles to Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes and Kris Jenner, whose upcoming appearance Kaling also announced via Twitter.

But Colbert’s guest spot takes the cake.
