A 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' Remake Is in the Works at Fox

As The Rocky Horror Picture Show approaches its 40th birthday, the celebrated movie could be getting a makeover at Fox.

ET has learned that the network is developing a two-hour television event as a reimagining of the 1975 cult classic to be directed by Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) and produced by Rocky Horror Picture Show's original producer Lou Adler. Ortega would also choreograph the project.

As the the iconic film still frequently plays in theaters at midnight screenings, this year will also mark 40 years of theatrical distribution, which is longer than any other film in history.

Fox first announced plans for a Rocky Horror Picture Show project in 2002.

"I've been a fan of Rocky Horror since I was a teenager," Gail Berman, then-entertainment president of Fox, said at the time.

Berman is also listed as a producer.
