Holy freakin' fairytales!

Once Upon a Time
's season four finale aired tonight and our heads are still spinning from that epic two-hour, movie-theater-worthy episode. We laughed, we cried, we swooned and, most of all, we terrified our neighbors with our shrieks of anger.

On tonight's one-time-only episode of Heroes and Villains, fans were brought into the Author's alternate world where the heroes were portrayed as villains, and vice versa. We experienced death, destruction, and perhaps the darkest twist of the series.

Here's what you need to know…

NEWS: Is True Love's Kiss Coming in the Season 4 Finale?!

Our least favorite character of all time -- aka The Author -- created a brand new book called Heroes and Villains that was filled with a wildly-wicked Snow White, a pluky bandit named Regina, and heartless drone named Charming, and an adorably befuddled Hook.

Henry stole the spotlight for the majority of the finale and it was remarkably refreshing to see "The Truest Believer" on our screen so much in his quest to save his fairytale family. Of course he saved the day and defeated The Author's evil plan to keep our characters trapped forever, but, in an added bonus, Henry became the new Author!

Back in Storybrooke, Henry asked The Sorcerer's Apprentice if he could use the quill just one more time to bring back his father, but unfortunately Neal is gone for good. Henry then took a page directly out of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 by snapping the author's quill in half, thus eliminating anyone from having the power to control the members of his family. Umm... yay?

ETONLINE

All of our characters were thisclose to their happy endings, but the last five minutes of our journey changed absolutely everything. Rumple's nearly-solid black heart put him on the brink of death, so at the request of bed-side Belle, the apprentice decided to try and pull the evilness from the Dark One and lock it away inside of the Sorcerer's hat.

The dark force left Rumple and dispersed into the night, and for a millisecond we were filled hope that we were going to end the season on a positive note. But then we remembered that this is Once Upon a Time and there is no way that was ever going to happen.

The black and vicious magic honed in on Regina and immediately tried to latch onto her formerly wicked ways and make her the new Dark One. However, Emma -- being the selfless savior that she is -- sacrificed herself to the darkness so that Regina could finally have her happy ending with Robin.

Luckily, before Emma succumbed to the dagger's wishes, she finally told Hook the three magical words that the entire Captain Swan fandom has been begging her to say: "I love you." After that long-awaited confession, Emma went from being The Savior to The Dark One in a matter of seconds and now we have no idea what this means for Storybrooke -- but you can be we're going to find out!

There you have it, Oncers – that two-hour finale was a roller coaster ride of emotions and now we must endure four-magic-free moths before we can be reunited with our favorite fairytale characters for season five.
