The only thing we have to fear is fear itself... and zombies.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself… and zombies.

Fear the Walking Dead, AMC's next nail-biting thriller from the same twisted minds behind The Walking Dead, is slowly but surely crawling into our TV horizon.

The new series, which premieres Sunday, August 23, will live in the same gritty universe as TWD, however it will not show the beginnings of your favorite Atlanta heroes. Instead, Fear is going to showcase the onset of the undead apocalypse in Los Angeles through the lenses of a blended family.

We caught up with the stars and executive producers of the dark drama at the hottest party at Comic-Con -- ET, AMC, and Tumblr's Fear the Walking Dead world premiere event -- to find out everything The Walking Dead fans should know before tuning into the beginning of humanity's end.

First things first, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd wants fans to know that Fear is not a prequel. "It takes place prior to when The Walking Dead begins, but it is not a prequel setting up the characters of The Walking Dead," she spilled on the red carpet.

EP David Alpert agreed, adding that Fear is not to be considered a "spin-off" either. "It's a highly different set of characters and it's a highly different set of locations," he said. "There's no overlap between the two worlds except that it's the same rules, the same stakes, and it treats the characters in the same weight and seriousness that we do on The Walking Dead."

Star Alycia Debnam-Carey, who is featured in our exclusive Fear the Walking Dead image above, is excited for new fans to get to know the zombie-filled world. "You don’t need to know anything about The Walking Dead to really get into this show," the actress explained. "You don’t have to have watched the original. It's coming from a very different place, a very different time, it's before everything happened, so it's completely refreshing and different."

"It will suck you in," Mercedes Mason, who stars as Ofelia, dished of the pilot. "The world is amazing. I've actually never seen a pilot where literally I looked back any everyone was on the edge of their seat with their eyes wide."

Fear the Walking Dead premieres Sunday, August 23 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
