The tables have turned for Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

On this week’s all-new episode of Extant, Morgan’s character J.D. Richter finds himself in a bind when Halle Berry’s Molly Woods is infected with a deadly virus, leaving her in a coma.

In the heartbreaking hospital scene, which ETonline exclusively debuts, an emotional J.D. pleads with Molly to wake up and not give up. It’s a moment that’s familiar to Morgan, whose Grey’s Anatomy character Denny Duqette (R.I.P.!) experienced a similarly emotional speech from Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl). (Relive the Kleenex-worthy moment here!)

“You’ve turned my world upside down and then you gave it a good shake. But you know what, I wouldn’t change a second of it,” J.D. tells a comatose Molly.

“You opened my eyes, Molly. You made me see things in myself and other people that I never would have found on my own. That’s what you do – you make the world see things. That’s your gift. You are the bravest and strongest person that I’ve ever met in my entire life,” he continues to plead.

And sometimes it takes a near-death situation to bring a person’s true feelings out, as in the case here. If there was any doubt about J.D.’s feelings toward Molly, this speech may have sealed it once and for all.

“People – they need you … I need you,” he says, clearly distraught.

Will Molly be the same again if or when she wakes up?
