The 'Murder in the First' star has a new gig.

Taye Diggs
is adding some spice to Empire.

The 45-year-old actor has landed a major role on season three of the hit Fox music drama, ET can confirm.

Diggs will appear in multiple episodes as Angelo Dubois, a New York councilman who graduated from Harvard Law and hails from a wealthy and respected family. Instead of pursuing more financially-beneficial areas of interest, Dubois chooses to focus on community issues and local politics, drawing comparisons to Barack Obama.

Diggs is just the latest to join the ranks of Empire, which will welcome singer Sierra McClain, rapper (and Khloe Kardashian’s ex) French Montana and Birdman in the new season.

Currently, Diggs stars on the TNT drama Murder in the First and will host Fox’s new game show, Hypnotize Me.

In May, Empire executive producer Ilene Chaiken gave fans a small preview of what’s to come after ending the sophomore season on a literal cliffhanger.

“We needed to challenge ourselves to grow the show and make it better," she said. “The stories that we found ourselves telling by the latter half of the season feel so rich, so complex and sophisticated. We think that we set the bar, cleared it, and now we have to clear it again."

Empire
returns Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
