American Horror Story set out to terrify Snapchat users when they released several teasers for the upcoming season.
The FX show released five snippets in promotion of season six on Wednesday that included lots of terrifying imagery. Perhaps the creepiest teaser had a centipede crawling down the face of the glowing green-eyed Lady Gaga, who won a Golden Globe
earlier this year for her role in AHS: Hotel.
Another promo shows a mobile looming over a crib with a knife and a pitchfork hanging down from it while a baby cries. When the crying stops, a green hand pops up and grabs the knife.
The next teaser only gets more horrifying when a woman is seen running down a dark staircase as hands grasp her feet and ankles. Another snippet shows a silhouette of a family walking at dusk as their eyes start to glow.
The last two teasers seem to be hinting at the theme of the show, which has yet to be revealed. In one of the promos, a pale-skinned man with unkempt fingernails is getting the "?6" stapled to his scalp as a person tells him, "Try to keep it dry." That question mark appears again in a pillar of smoke above a distant farmhouse. In this teaser, a woman can be heard screaming as a chainsaw roars.
In March, AHS creator Ryan Murphy hinted
at the theme of season six. "Well, you the know the interesting thing about the next season is that we've been working on two ideas at once, which we've never done," he revealed during a panel at PaleyFest. Murphy admitted that he's fascinated with horror that "often deals with the innocence of children, and their wide-eyed way into it."
"Both [season six] ideas we're working with have elements of children," he added. "It will have a different form than we've ever done."
Angela Bassett also revealed to ET
what she knew about her AHS
character in season six. "I think I'm an alcoholic," she shared in March. "That's all I know but I don't know where, why, what made me so."
