'American Crime Story' Renewed for Season 3, Will Focus on Gianni Versace Murder
Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story has been renewed for a third season, ET can confirm.
News of the FX series' renewal follows the impressive performance of the show's first installment, People v. O.J. Simpson, which nabbed 10 Emmys last month, including Best Limited Series. The second season, which will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, has yet to premiere.
The anthology's third season will again take on a murder mystery, focusing on the 1997 assassination of designer Gianni Versace by sociopath and serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Versace was murdered on the steps of his Miami mansion by Cunanan, who killed himself eight days later in a house boat. Cunanan's motives for killing Versace, his fifth and final victim, were never revealed.
Versace's sister, Donatella Versace, is said to be prominently featured in the series' exploration of his death.
The script for Versace/Cunanan, as the season will be titled, will be based off the book Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History by Maureen Orth, and is set to start filming in early 2017.
