Now this is a casting choice we can all get behind!

Lady Gaga will be playing legendary fashion designer Donatella Versace in the third season of American Crime Story, which focuses on the 1997 murder of Donatella's brother, designer Gianni Versace, Us Weekly reports. Filming begins in early 2017, and the 10-episode installment will air after the series' upcoming second season, which focuses on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Gaga, 30, and Donatella, 61, are definitely friendly with one another. Gaga has worn her designs to multiple A-list events, and has walked the red carpet plenty of times with the designer herself, most recently at the 2016 Met Gala in May. The two held hands and posed alongside Donatella's 30-year-old daughter, Allegra.

Gaga has also already worked with American Crime Story executive producer Ryan Murphy before. The singer has appeared on the latest two seasons of Murphy's American Horror Story, Hotel and Roanoke.

The script for Versace/Cunanan -- which is the title of the series' third season -- is based off the book by Maureen Orth titled Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History. Versace was murdered on the steps of his Miami mansion by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who killed himself eight days later in a house boat. Cunanan's motives for killing Versace were never revealed.

2017 is already shaping up to be a busy year for Gaga. In September, a source confirmed to ET that Mother Monster is headlining the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show in February.
