Modern Family is adding a former NFL star for season eight.
The 40-year-old retired quarterback will guest star as Coach Gary, baby Joe’s sports tutor, who is brought in by Gloria (Sofia Vergara) to help teach him how to throw and catch.
This will mark Manning’s first official acting role, though he previously hosted Saturday Night Live in 2007 and appeared as himself on The Simpsons, The Girls Next Door, American Idol and Neil Patrick Harris’ variety show, Best Time Ever.
In March, Manning made the emotional announcement
that he was saying goodbye to football after 18 successful seasons with the NFL. "Grateful is the word that comes to mind," a tearful Manning said.
Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
