'NCIS: Los Angeles' Explosion in Venice Beach, How It Happened

May 14, 2014

LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell aren't the only stars of NCIS: Los Angeles. Most of the show is shot on location in LA, and ET got an exclusive look at how one of their biggest action scenes went down!

Unlike most TV shows, NCIS: LA shoots on location rather than a sound stage. ET was with the crew tasked with making a bombing in Venice Beach look real.

"We take a lot of creative license in television, but in a situation like this we wanted to be as realistic as possible," NCIS: LA producer Joseph C. Wilson explains.

Shooting on location for NCIS: LA isn't cheap and it takes a crew of about 150 people to pull it off... in one take!

"Our special effects guys do just an incredible job," star Chris O'Donnell gushes. "They never cease to amaze us. Every time we come out here we're like, 'Wow!'"

Be sure to watch the video to see if they pull off the blast!
